ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Eric Stauffer was sentenced to 166 years to life in prison for an 2021 attempted murder in Roseville, according to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.

Case history:

Officials say in September 2022, Roseville police responded to a single gunshot in a neighborhood. Officials say Stauffer shot a gun at his ex’s new love interest while a 2-year-old and his mother were in the line of fire.

He then tried to sell the gun on social media following the shooting.

Stauffer’s criminal history dates to 2002, where his crimes range from illegal use of firearms, battery of a spouse, robbery, burglary, DUI, multiple violations of parole and probation, according to the DA’s office.

During the trial, he had many outbursts and yelled at witnesses. While in jail, officials say he tried to coerce witnesses as well.

He was found guilty of attempted murder, assault with a firearm and other charges.
