OAKDALE, Calif. — A man who took police officers on a high-speed chase through Oakdale was driving a stolen car, according to the Oakdale Police Department.
The Oakdale police were pursuing a possible drunk driver Saturday around 2:33 a.m. after the driver ran a stop sign at North 1st Avenue and Poplar Street and began driving with "willful disregard for public safety," the department said.
The driver, later identified as Jared Joseph Dykes, 19, failed to yield when an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop and then led officer on a high-speed chase through Oakdale, according to Oakdale police.
During the chase, Dykes lost control of the 1997 red Honda Accord he was driving and crashed into a power pole in the 100 block of North Maag Avenue. Dykes and a juvenile passenger were both taken into custody.
Officers later discovered the Honda Accord driven by Dykes was reported stolen in Waterford, the department said.
Dykes was previously arrested in 2019 for stealing two Honda Accords in Oakdale.
