SacRT passengers feeling uneasy after fatal shooting suspects still on the run

Sacramento police confirm the two "armed and dangerous" Sac RT shooting suspects are linked to a carjacking that ended up on Sacramento State's campus.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The man hunt continues for two suspect accused of shooting and killing a man and injuring two others at a Sacramento Regional Transit Light Rail Station leaving Thursday.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, it happened around 3:15 p.m. at the University and 65th Street station.

SacRT had additional security at the station Friday but some passengers, like Christopher Gonzalez, still felt uneasy.

“(It's) pretty scary I was on the train thirty minutes before it happened,” said Gonzalez.

Despite those feelings and safety concerns, he and many other passengers returned to the tracks as it’s their only mode of transportation to work.

“I have to take it, despite it being unsafe, I got to do what I got to do,” said Gonzalez.

“I didn’t want to ride today but I have to,” said Brenda.

Sac RT says the safety of their passengers is their top priority. They have contracts with Sacramento Sheriff and Police, and Transit Ambassadors on trains plus security guards at stations.

There are also 1,500 cameras around stations and trains being reviewed in real time.

The additional security seen Friday encouraged some riders, but they're saying it should be a more common occurrence.

“I’d like more of that, because that has not been here, since the incident, so more security presence,” said Gonzalez.

There was also a carjacking in the area, though it's unclear if it happened before or after the shooting. Police confirm the two suspects, who they consider armed and dangerous, ditched the stolen car in a Sacramento State University parking lot near the American River and ran down the Levee.

Anyone with information is encouraged by police to contact them at 916-808-5471.
