10-year-old boy killed in Sacramento County shooting, sheriff's office says

Officials were called to the 4700 block of Greenholme Drive around 4:30 p.m. and multiple people were detained at the scene.

FOOTHILL FARMS, Calif. — Sunday morning update:

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 10-year-old boy and his father in connection to the Saturday night fatal shooting of another 10-year-old boy.

A 10-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Foothill Farms area Saturday evening, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office. 

Officials were called to the 4700 block of Greenholme Drive around 4:30 p.m. where they located the injured boy. The sheriff's office says witnesses tell them they heard a gunshot in the area. A gun has not been located at this time, according to a sheriff's spokesperson. 

The boy was taken to the hospital where he later died.

One adult and three to four other minors were detained at the scene, but officials say they're still investigating the extent of their involvement, if any, in the shooting.
