Two arrested in connection to Valentine's Day shooting of Sacramento mother

Both suspects were taken into custody in New York City Tuesday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —  The family of a mother killed on Valentine's Day said they can rest easy after two people were arrested in connection to the killing of a Sacramento mother.

The Sacramento Police Department announced Tuesday that Isaiah James and Ayonna Burgos, both 25 of Sacramento, were taken into custody in New York City.

Police said the shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Lake Crest Village Shopping Center near Shari's Cafe and Pies along Florin Road.

The woman, later identified as Chasity Sparkman, was hospitalized after the shooting but ultimately died.

Sparkman's aunt, Dee Dee, said she was excited to hear the two suspects were finally caught. She was granted custody of Sparkman's 6- and 8-year-old children in case anything ever happened to her.

The family has gone through every emotion while Sparkman's aunt remains strong for the kids.

Police have not confirmed the relationship between the suspects and Sparkman but Dee Dee said the pair are Sparkman's husband and his girlfriend.

She found out about the arrest after Sparkman's funeral and right before her services on Tuesday.

Dee Dee saif the two children Sparkman left behind both jumped for joy after learning about the arrests and the family is now at peace.

James and Burgos face extradition to Sacramento in connection to the killing.
