17-year-old David Cantero Valdez killed in Tracy shooting

Police said the teen was in a car that had been shot several times.

TRACY, Calif. — A Tracy teenager died after being shot in a car Friday night.

According to the Tracy Police Department, officers responded to a reported crash along Sugar Road between Tracy Boulevard and Holly Drive around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 12. 

Arriving officers found a man inside a car that was shot several times. Tracy Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Mike Richards said the car went off the road after the shooting.

The teenager was taken to a hospital where he ultimately died from his wounds. Authorities identified the shooting victim as David Cantero Valdez, 17 of Tracy.

No additional details surrounding the shooting, including what led up to it have been released.
