Bystander tackles gunman in front of Marysville restaurant, police say

Police say the suspect was pointing the gun at the bystander's family, so the bystander tackled him to the ground and disarmed him.

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — A bystander tackled a man accused of shooting into the air Tuesday night in Marysville.

According to the Marysville Police Department, officers were called about a shooting in front of a restaurant on the 900 block of B Street around 11:30 p.m.

Upon arrival officers saw a group of people holding the suspect on the ground.

Police say the suspect, 26-year-old Roy Kirk Jr., of Clear Lake Oaks, got out of his car in the parking lot and fired a round into the air.

People inside the restaurant reportedly came outside to see what was going on. Police say Kirk then fired several more rounds into the air before pointing it at a group of people in front of the restaurant.

A bystander in the parking lot saw it unfold and tackled Kirk; the bystander reportedly feared Kirk was going to shoot his family members. The group of people then allegedly disarmed Kirk.

Yuba City police arrived and reported to Marysville police Kirk was suspected of brandishing a firearm in the parking lot of a gas station on Colusa Highway.

Kirk was arrested and booked into Yuba County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, according to law enforcement.
