Community holds benefit concert for brothers attacked by mountain lion in El Dorado County

“Most of these people are from our community. They came out, the story has gone wide and our community is amazing."

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — The community continues to mourn after two brothers were involved in a Mountain Lion attack last month in El Dorado County.

Loved ones, friends and even strangers came to help raise funds for the family of the two brothers at the Jack Russell Farm Brewery in Camino. More than half a dozen bands came out to perform.

Both 21-year-old Taylen and 18-year-old Wyatt Brooks of Mt. Aukum were involved in the attack. Taylen did not survive the attack while those close to the family say Wyatt is expected to make a full recovery.

Authorities say the two brothers were out looking for antlers. Along the way, a mountain lion approached them and then attacked.

The lion was eventually shot and killed after authorities searched for it near the scene.

“Most of these people are from our community. They came out, the story has gone wide and our community is amazing. They have come forward in so many ways; you cannot even describe it,” said Jenean Lubinski, who is a family friend and the organizer of the benefit concert.

The family says they are remembering Taylen for being a very kind and gentle soul and say he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
