Borland Avenue closed along Highway 49 in Auburn for a roundabout project

The project is set to be complete in the fall 2024.

AUBURN, Calif. — Construction is underway for the $9.9 million American Canyon Roundabout project.

Caltrans says the project addresses safety issues, smoothing out sharp turns along Highway 49 and creating a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 49, Lincoln Way and Borland Avenue.

Borland Avenue has been closed since April 29 in Auburn and is scheduled to be closed through June 7.

Jeremy Linder with Caltrans says the work didn't get finished last year and the closing is needed to keep the project on track. They worked with businesses along the road ahead of the closing to see what they could improve on this time around.

"The detour signs were probably their biggest thing, they wanted to see bigger signs. So, we’ve implemented those changes to make it more apparent, especially for those customers that are not from the Auburn area, so that it'll be easy to see the detour that's available to work your way back around to Borland Avenue. Those businesses are still open and we definitely encourage the public to continue to patron them," said Linder.

According to Linder, the project will be completed in late fall 2024. You can find detours to access businesses along Borland Avenue here.
