South Lake Tahoe's Fourth of July fireworks, parade | Need to know

South Lake Tahoe is going to celebrate the holiday with a parade in the morning and fireworks show at night. Here's what you need to know if you're planning a trip.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. —

The City of South Lake Tahoe and Visit South Lake Tahoe are putting on Fourth of July events for people to enjoy Independence Day on Thursday by the lake.

South Lake Tahoe is going to celebrate the holiday with a parade in the morning and fireworks show at night.

The parade is set to begin at 10 a.m. It will travel down Highway 50 from Ski Run Boulevard to Bijou Park. The city said that the best spots to watch the parade are the following:

  • The South Lake Tahoe Library
  • Lakeview Commons
  • South Tahoe Middle School
  • Rite Aid's parking lot
  • Near the Lake Tahoe Unified School District bus garage

This is a route that the City of South Lake Tahoe's parade will take for the Fourth of July parade.

After the parade, the city is bringing in a handful of food trucks to Bijou Park so people can enjoy some food with the community for the holiday. After the sun sets, people can watch the fireworks as they are shot off above the lake.

If you go for the fireworks show you can try to find a free spot along the lake, but the United States Forest Service and Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority suggest getting to public beaches to claim a spot before the parade starts.

Carol Chaplin, president and CEO  of Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, said that due to the higher water levels, the shorelines surrounding the lake are smaller and so fewer people can set up at the beach.

If you are able to get a spot to watch the fireworks, Radio 93.9 KRVT will have a music show that synchronizes with the display.

There are also some private parties where people can pay to watch the fireworks. Chaplin said that some of the public places to check out the fireworks include:

  • Nevada Beach
  • Lakeside Marina
  • Timberwood Marina
