MORAGA, Calif. (AP) - Northern California police say a 19-month-old girl has died after being left alone for hours in the back seat of a hot car.

Moraga Police Chief Jon King said Wednesday that the family is devastated after a family member left the girl in the car for several hours. King said the same family member found the girl not breathing around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday.

King said the tragedy appears to be an accident, but police will investigate. He said it is the third such death in California this year.

The East Bay Times reported that temperatures in Moraga were 80 degrees when police responded, making temperatures inside the car were likely as high as 130 degrees.

The Contra Costa coroner identified the child as Lily Aracic, of Oakland.
