This Davis restaurant is Food Network's 'Best Bite in Town'

The best bite in Davis was The Hotdogger's chicken Thai sausage with kefir lime leaves and a spicy Thai salsa.

DAVIS, Calif. — The Hotdogger in Davis is the winner of the first episode of a new Food Network show called "Best Bite in Town."

The best bite in town was the Hotdogger's chicken Thai sausage with kefir lime leaves and a spicy Thai salsa. They used buns from Davis' own Village Bakery, according to the Davis Farmers Market Alliance.

Ivan Franks, the owner of The Hotdogger, told ABC10 how he felt when they announced his restaurant won.

“It was elation so we leaped up in joy,” Franks said. “It was a wonderful moment to win something that we worked hard on together."

Best Bite in Town is a new show hosted by Guy Fieri. Three judges including Noah Cappe, Tiffani Faison and Jet Tila scoured Davis for the best bites in town. Each judge visited two restaurants, but picked only one dish to serve up for the showcase at Central Park. A panel of judges determined the winner.

Franks told ABC10 his family has made hot dogs for about 30 years.

“Davis raised me and my family. It was nice to have a little fun,” Franks said.

His son, Tad Franks, represented The Hotdogger on the show.

Sudwerk Brewing Co. and Hikari Sushi & Omakase placed in the top three. Other Davis eateries that competed included Handheld Sweet & Savory Pies, Zumapoke and Tommy J's Grill.

The Davis episode will air again Saturday, April 20 at 11 p.m. and Sunday, April 21 at 2 a.m. Find more information HERE.
