The El Dorado County Office of Education has released a statement calling Superintendent of Schools Jeremy Meyers' second DUI arrest "unfortunate."

The office of education also said it will continue to work with Meyers, who is an elected official and not an office of education employee. The statement was released Friday.

"The El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) has learned that County Superintendent Jeremy M. Meyers was arrested yesterday afternoon for driving under the influence. While unfortunate, we will continue to work together and deliver high-quality support to our county-wide programs, school districts and community."

Meyers, 45, of Cool, was arrested on suspicion of a driving under the influence Thursday afternoon. The sheriff's office said he was booked into jail with a $17,000 dollar bond.

The county school board is expected to discuss Meyers' arrest in closed session on Saturday.

Meyers was arrested for a previous DUI on June 9. He was appointed Superintendent of El Dorado County Office of Education in 2013 and elected to the position in 2014, serving the county's 15 school districts. He earns an annual salary of $196,837.
