An $857 PG&E bill for an Elk Grove home? | 10 On Your Side

ELK GROVE, Calif — Greg Logoteta lives in Elk Grove's Laguna Woods neighborhood. He was on vacation down in Southern California when he got a PG&E bill for $857.91.

"I won't be paying this. I can guarantee you that," said Logoteta.

He spoke to 10 On Your Side from his camper, outraged by the excuse he says he got from PG&E.

"She said, well basically, 'There was a problem with your meter and it wasn't transferring the correct data for October, November and December. And so we have adjusted your bill up to make up for the shortfall,'" said Logoteta.

Logoteta felt he was paying for the price for PG&E's mistake.

"It doesn't quite work that way for consumers. If I go into a store and I buy a jacket and it's marked $49.99 and I like the jacket and I buy it, the store doesn't call me back and say that was mismarked. The jacket was actually $99.99. You need to come in and pay us $50. That's not the way the world works for the consumer. I'm not going to pay for your faulty equipment," he said.

ABC10 reached out to PG&E, making phone calls and sending emails. The family is now back from vacation and wound up with some good news.

PG&E sent 10 On Your Side a statement regarding the issue.

"I wanted to let you know that the customer from Elk Grove who received a very high natural gas bill has had their account credited. Unfortunately, the customer's gas meter had to be replaced, and this unfortunately resulted in a billing error," said Paul Moreno, spokesperson with PG&E.

Not only was Logoteta cleared of having to pay the $857, he ended up with a credit of $45 and no payment due.

Logoteta says he hopes this sends a message to everyone to be aware and always ask questions. And keep in mind, ABC10 is here to help. If you have a problem and don't know where else to turn, email to onyourside@abc10.com.
