Elk Grove teachers aide on leave after being accused of assaulting student

The Sacramento Co. Sheriff’s Office says a teacher’s aide was cited and released after they received a call that the aide potentially assaulted a 9-year-old student.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — An Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) teacher’s aide has been placed on administrative leave after allegedly assaulting a 9-year-old student.

EGUSD told ABC10 it is investigating an allegation of employee misconduct reported to school officials at Arlene Hein Elementary School.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says a teacher’s aide was cited and released after they received a call that the aide potentially assaulted a nine-year-old student.

The details of what happened have not been released, but the sheriff’s office says it is important to have an open dialogue with your child.

“Talk to your kids, be receptive to what they are having to say,” said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sgt. Amar Gandhi. “Obviously, this is a super rare occurrence. This is not something that we see anywhere much less the Elk Grove school district, but again, be receptive to what your kids are saying. Bring this to our attention, or at least let us investigate.”

The sheriff’s office says the teacher’s aide faces a misdemeanor charge of willful cruelty to a child.

EGUSD says the safety of students and staff remains a top priority.
