Plans to construct a new Costco Wholesale store in Elk Grove moved forward at the city council meeting Wednesday night.

City council members approved permit plans for a new warehouse store near the Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road intersection.

The nearest Costco for the roughly 40,000 members in the Elk Grove area is located near South Sacramento.

Architects for the popular wholesaler presented to council members their modified design plans for the building, which were made in order to satisfy some previous concerns the council had, as reported by the Sacramento Bee.

The company said the design was made specifically for the city, with stone pillars that will compliment the nearby Ridge Shopping Center project.

At Wednesday's meeting, some residents expressed their opposition to the central location for the Costco store because of the potential affect on area traffic.
