Man seriously hurt after crashing motorcycle near Marysville

The man tried to stop before an accident, lost control of his bike and was ejected onto the road.

YUBA CITY, Calif. — A man was hospitalized with major injuries after crashing his motorcycle while trying to avoid another accident near Marysville Saturday afternoon, according to officials.

The California Highway Patrol says Carl Grimes was riding in a group of motorcycles on his Harley Davidson north on Highway 70 near Saddleback Drive around 1 p.m. Officials say two motorcycles crashed and went down in the center divide in front of Grimes.

Grimes tried to stop before the accident, lost control of his bike and was ejected onto the road. He suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital.

CHP officials are still investigating what happened, but say a sedan that may have been involved, the two motorcycles that went down and "a large majority of stopped vehicles"  left the scene while officials tended to Grimes.

CHP is asking anyone with information of what happened during this crash to call their office at (530) 645-6200 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or CHP Chico dispatch at (530) 332-1200 after hours.
