4 dead, including infant, in Manteca after accident along Highway 120

Police said bystanders were able to help pull some people from the vehicle after the crash happened.

MANTECA, Calif — Four people, including a child less than a year old, are dead after an accident in Manteca Saturday night.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash was reported around 10 p.m. along Highway 120, westbound east of Van Ryn Avenue.

Police said a 2011 Toyota Sienna was heading west along Highway 120 at around 60 to 65 miles per hour when the driver lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason. The Sienna hit the center median, went into the dirt and grass median separating eastbound and westbound Highway 120 and continued going until it went into the air, traversed the Van Ryn Avenue undercrossing, hit the overpass, overturned and caught fire.

Bystanders were able to pull four minors from the vehicle, including an infant and three children ranging from six to 14 years old. A six-year-old girl was also taken to a hospital with major injuries. Police said there was a total of seven people in the vehicle.

Two adults and two minors in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, including the driver and an infant. It's not clear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
