ROSEVILLE, Calif. — A new restaurant is set to open in spring 2024 in West Roseville.
Masa Masa is a women-owned taco shop located in the Village Westpark shopping center. The restaurant has been in the works for nearly two years, according to chef and co-owner Emily Torres.
Torres said she and her wife and co-owner, Ashlie Millington, have been in the restaurant industry for more than 15 years and have worked several positions spanning from line cook to general manager.
"We hope the details in the building like the hand-painted mural by a local artist and the viewing area for guests to watch tortillas being made show the love that goes into our restaurant," Torres told ABC10.
The restaurant will offer the couple's award-winning quesabirria taco with ramen consommé, a Korean beef taco with kimchi as well as vegan and vegetarian options such as a fried avocado taco and the Adobe cauliflower taco.
There will also be drinks including beer, wine and a frozen blackberry sangria with a house-made mango puree.
Torres said they are hoping to open their doors in April.
"Masa Masa is literally in our backyard and Roseville is our forever home. We knew what kind of taco shop Roseville needed because we are Roseville residents ourselves," Torres told ABC10.
Masa Masa has a unique mission extending outside the restaurant. Torres told ABC10 her wife was diagnosed with leukemia while the couple was working to open the restaurant. This inspired what they call the Be Kind movement. Each taco will give back to a charity that has impacted the community.
Some of the charities listed on Masa Masa's website include Down Syndrome Achievement Centers, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Stand Up Placer and more.
Torres said Masa Masa was formerly known as Tacoholics and won the best taco at the 2023 Taco Throwdown in Roseville.
Masa Masa is located at 2310 Pleasant Grove Boulevard Suite 130. It will be open from Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. once the restaurant opens. Find more information HERE.
