Firefighter hurt battling Modesto house fire

Authorities described the first responder's injuries as minor.

MODESTO, Calif. — A Modesto Fire Department firefighter was hurt while battling a house fire Saturday, the department said in a Facebook post.

Flames erupted inside the two-story, 3,400 square-foot home near Prescott Road and Bangs Avenue early Saturday morning, fire crews said.

Flames shot through the attic and roof of the home. Officials say crews were initially inside the home, but had to pull out when the roof collapsed.

Firefighters eventually went back inside the house after using an elevated master stream to knock down some flames.

It's unclear at what point the firefighter was hurt. The department described the firefighter's injuries as minor saying that he or she was treated after the fire.

Firefighters say that cannabis was being grown at the home. Investigators are working to find out the origin and cause of the fire.
