Sacramento police are seeking murder charges against Fredrick Tatum for the death of a woman whose body was found in a north Sacramento hotel room pn Wednesday.

Tatum, 52, was accused of killing 42-year-old April Fowler Friday, two days after he was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, police said. Police said Tatum, who was Fowler's friend, physically assaulted her and caused fatal injuries.

Fowler's body was found around 12:35 p.m. Wednesday on the third floor of the hotel in the 3700 block of Northgate Boulevard. Officers responded to the scene after Tatum's caregiver, who became suspicious during a brief visit with the suspect at the hotel room's door, called police.

Police said Tatum was inside of the hotel room when officers arrived and was immediately detained. He was taken to the police station for questioning then booked into Sacramento County Jail for not registering as a sex offender.

Police said Friday, Tatum faces an additional charge for Fowler's murder.
