'It's very unsettling': Neighbors concerned after Rocklin home riddled with bullets

Rocklin police say the shooting was targeted and they’re searching for those involved.

ROCKLIN, Calif. — People living in the Whitney Oaks area of Rocklin are on edge after someone fired 20 bullets into their neighbor’s home Tuesday night.

Rocklin police say it was targeted and they’re now searching for the shooters involved. Surveillance video shows the pair firing their guns at a home in a gated community.

A mother who lives down the road from the scene remembers hearing the shots.

"It was so unusual and I never heard gunshots before in my life. It was like a metal sound and it was very fast, too. My daughter said, ‘oh my God, mom it's gunshots,’” said a mother of three who didn’t want to be identified.

She told ABC10 it’s the first time she’s felt scared after living in the area for 16 years. Alison Riccardi agrees it’s not the type of area where you’d see homes peppered by gunfire.

"We moved here at the end of July and it's been a really quiet neighborhood. Our experience it’s very unsettling but it also appears to not be random,” said Riccardi.

Police confirm the home off Pebble Beach Road was targeted but they’re still trying to nail down a motive.

Several neighbors who spoke to ABC10 off-camera say they’re left fearing for their safety and the possibility of the shooters returning.

They say the issue is the lack of gates at two entrances used by pedestrians. They’re now in talks with the homeowner’s association and requesting them.

"I would like to get the gates as soon as possible. I mean, I know it's not going to prevent, but it's going to create some type of barrier. It's not going to be that easy to come and go,” said a mother of three.

In a statement to ABC10, the HOA said, “As a management company serving the Whitney Oaks community, we're evaluating steps and measures to increase the level of security for our homeowners.”

Neighbors plan to meet with them March 6 to discuss the gates.

Rocklin police say anyone who witnessed unusual activity in the area or has video of the shooting can call them.
