Oakdale says goodbye to annual Chocolate Festival

The Oakdale Chamber of Commerce says a survey went out to the public and results indicated the festival had run its course.

OAKDALE, Calif. — The Oakdale Chocolate Festival, a longstanding festival in the area, is no more.

The Oakdale Chamber of Commerce, which put on the festival for decades, says it won't be operating the festival this year and will be moving away from large-scale events in the future.

"The Oakdale Chamber of Commerce has agreed to a strategic transition from large-scale event planning to a resource-based organizational focus. As part of this shift, we have decided to discontinue hosting the Oakdale Chocolate Festival, aligning with our commitment to better serve our members and community through enhanced resource allocation and support initiatives," said Chamber of Commerce CEO Cherilyn Bairos.

Bairos said the move came after listening to both guests and vendors about the festival. She says a Chamber survey found 50% of people thought the festival had "run its course," especially with the Hershey's chocolate factory no longer being in the city. The Chamber also held community meetings about the event, too.
