Lanes on Interstate 80 reopened following deadly accident in Sacramento, CHP says | UPDATE

SACRAMENTO, Calif — UPDATE: 9:40 a.m.

All lanes on Interstate 80 near the Capitol City Freeway have been reopened following a deadly five-vehicle accident, California Highway Patrol officials confirmed on Twitter Monday morning.

The accident, which happened just before 5 a.m., forced four of five lanes on westbound I-80 to shut down. About two hours after the accident, CHP officials were able to open three lanes in the area, clearing some of the traffic.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m., officials opened all lanes on I-80.

According to CHP, the accident involved one motorcycle and four other vehicles. Details about what caused the deadly accident were not immediately available.
