Former students of the Marinello Schools of Beauty can now file applications to get significant portions of their money back.

Tuesday, officials from the State Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education stopped by one of Marinello’s former locations to help students complete the proper forms.

Through a sort of insurance policy set up by the state, called the Student Tuition Recovery Fund, students can get back tuition and registration fees they paid out of pocket in as little as three months.

“Most students are qualified,” Edward Lewis, an investigative analyst with the B.P.P.E., said, “and it's a good opportunity to apply for tuition assistance so that, down the road, if they do not transfer to another school, they have an opportunity to be reimbursed for the tuition paid out of pocket.”

For students who weren't able to make it to today's seminar, Lewis provided some simple instructions: Visit the bureau’s website at www.bppe.ca.gov because there’s a whole guide for Marinello students.

It’s where you can find the application for the Student Tuition Recovery Fund and information about redirecting or canceling your student loans.
