Fire engulfs strip mall in Sacramento, no injuries reported

The fire department said in an 8 a.m. update the fire is mostly out, but crews will likely be there all day.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Crews responded to a fire burning at a strip mall in Sacramento Friday, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

The fire broke out along Florin Road near Franklin Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. The fire department said in an 8 a.m. update the fire is mostly out, but crews will likely be there all day.

Crews took a defensive approach to the fire due to part of the roof collapsing. According to the fire department, the strip mall is mostly vacant.

Capt. Justin Sylvia, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Fire Department, said aerial ladders were in place where about a thousand gallons of water per minute were being used to fight the flames.

A spokesperson for the fire department said Florin Road is shut down between Franklin Boulevard and Luther Drive and no injuries have been reported.

The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
