SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man was arrested after a deadly house fire in Sacramento, the Sacramento Police Department said in an update Wednesday.

The fire happened Tuesday night along Handly Way in the Meadowview neighborhood. One person was found dead inside the home.

The fire is still under investigation.

CASE HISTORY

One person is dead after a house fire in south Sacramento Tuesday night.

The Sacramento Fire Department confirmed the fatality with ABC10. The fire was reported along the 7500 block of Handly Way in the Meadowview neighborhood around 7:40 p.m.

Fire Captain Justin Sylvia said there were heavy fire conditions coming from the front of the building, which made it tough to push into the house.

Sylvia said two people in the home were able to escape on their own, but another person was found dead inside. The person's identity hasn't been released but they were described by police as a man. Sylvia said the fire was considered suspicious, but it's unclear why.

Officer Cody Tapley, spokesperson for Sacramento police, said the death was being investigated as a homicide. He said the fire was reported as an arson. The investigation is ongoing.
