Sacramento's Mama Marks Play Pool may get almost $566,000 in renovations

The Del Paso Heights pool park could open this summer with a half-million dollar facelift if city officials approve new construction Tuesday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento city officials are considering awarding a $565,690 construction contract to renovate the Del Paso Heights Mama Marks Park Splash Pad in time for a summer 2024 opening.

The city initially closed the play pool at 1140 Roanoke Ave. in 2018 for several reasons, including "low participation, a lifeguard shortage and ongoing maintenance issues with an aging facility."

Mama Marks' closing left nearby residents disappointed and without a community pool to escape scorching hot summers.

Now, city officials will discuss Tuesday contracting with TJR Resources Inc. to bring the 4.2-acre pool park back to life in time for this summer. Proposed improvements include:

  • Demolition of the existing wading pool
  • Installation of splash pad equipment
  • Grading and concrete paving

Annual utilities and maintenance costs will be covered by the Sacramento Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE).

The Southside Park Swimming Pool is also set to open this summer after long-needed maintenance.
