Man accused of attempted homicide, human trafficking after Stockton freeway shooting

CHP says 33-year-old Adonnis Taylor chased and shot at a vehicle the woman he's accused of trafficking was riding in.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Two people were arrested this week after a freeway shooting on I-5 in Stockton, Friday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 24 on southbound I-5 near French Camp Road.

Upon arrival, officers found a Honda with damage to its front and rear. The people inside the Honda left the scene and abandoned the vehicle in the #1 lane.

Investigators found bullet holes in the Honda, as well as a cell phone and wallet with ID matching the vehicle’s registered owner.

While at the scene, officers were called by Stockton police and told they found the vehicle’s owner at a nearby park. He told them he was driving with a woman when he was chased down by a black Audi SUV and shot at.

CHP says investigators found the woman riding in the Honda was a victim of human trafficking and she identified the driver of the Audi, 33-year-old Adonnis Taylor, as her trafficker.

Taylor, who is on parole, was stopped and detained Wednesday. He was then arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted homicide and human trafficking.

Taylor’s passenger, 34-year-old Anthony Robinson Jr., was also on parole and he was arrested for a PRCS violation.

Anyone with information in the shooting can call the CHP Valley Division’s Investigative Services Unit at 916-731-6300.
