31-year-old Stockton Mexican restaurant to close permanently

The family that owns Susy's says they will still offer catering services from a different location.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Business was booming Friday at midtown Stockton staple, Susy's Mexican Restaurant.

Hours before doors at the Harding Way business opened Friday, hundreds of loyal customers found out on Facebook that the 31-year-old family-owned restaurant was closing permanently.

Members of the Padilla family, which owns the popular Mexican restaurant, were too busy with the influx of customers to sit down for an interview Friday, but confirmed Sunday will be the restaurant's last day in business.

Susy's, which opened in August 1992 just off Stockton's Miracle Mile, has been a fan-favorite with nearly 100 five-star reviews on Yelp.

While the Padilla family did not disclose why they decided to close their restaurant, the owner's daughter, Lizy Padilla said her father plans to still offer catering services from a new location.

"Thank you to the community for all of the support and business throughout the last 30 years. We appreciate you," said Lizy Padilla in a statement. "The 209 community has been such a huge part of our business."

People interested in the family's catering services can reach out to Rudy Padilla at 209-470-0839 or susyscatering@yahoo.com.

Susy's will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
