Turlock nursing home to close citing costs, workforce challenges

Brandel Manor said they will provide services until all their residents are relocated.

TURLOCK, Calif. — Dozens of seniors are now looking for a new place stay as their nursing home in Turlock prepares to close.

Brandel Manor is a 145-bed facility providing post-acute, long-term care and assisted living. The facility notified residents and families about their upcoming closure on Jan. 15.

The decision came after Brandel Manor determined operations weren't financially sustainable. Some of the reasons cited included workforce challenges, the age of the building and operating costs.

"Our top priorities throughout the closure process are to maintain our commitment to the dignity and welfare of our residents and assisting them and their families as they begin seeking alternative living arrangements and to maintain a positive work environment and provide support for all employees as they close out their employment with Brandel and Cypress (Assisted Living) over the upcoming months," Brandel Manor said in a news release.

However, there's no hard closing date for the nursing home. Officials said they'll be providing services until all residents have relocated.

"Covenant Living provided a list of skilled nursing facilities in the area for alternative living arrangements. Additionally, some skilled nursing facilities have reached out to us saying they have space and would accept residents. We are providing assistance in all of the moves," said Randy Eilts, director of Public Relations and Communications for Covenant Living Communities and Services.

Eilts said there are 85 residents still at the facility with 15 of them already having a new place to go in the days ahead.
