Police said the woman identified her attacker as 38-year-old Jesse Esquire III and said she had been held there for “several hours” before she was able to escape.

TURLOCK, Calif. — A man accused of sexually assaulting and holding a woman against her will was arrested in Turlock, Wednesday afternoon, following a standoff with police.

Around 4:30 p.m., officers were called out to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of N. Palm Street, located just to the south of Crowell Elementary School, after investigators said a woman reportedly escaped from an apartment, claiming she had been assaulted.

Police said the woman identified her attacker as 38-year-old Jesse Esquire III and said she had been held there for “several hours” before she was able to escape. Police did not say how the woman and Esquire first came in contact.

Because the woman told police that Esquire was armed and using drugs, police said they called in their Critical Response Team to make the arrest. Investigators said, at first, Esquire refused to come out of the apartment. However, after a short period of time, police said Esquire came out and was arrested without incident.

Esquire was taken to the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of sexual assault, false imprisonment, domestic battery, criminal threats and assault with a deadly weapon.
