Solano County libraries facing 'disruption' to online services, investigation underway

The disruption began April 5 and officials continue working to restore services.

SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — Libraries in Solano County after facing disruptions after "unexpected activity" caused online services to shut down, according to officials.

Tim Flanagan, the Solano County Chief Information Officer for the Registrar of Voters, says the Solano County Library is still open for people to use, but some computer systems aren't working.

"Computer services, phone lines and WiFi are down at all library locations," said the Solano County Library website. "All virtual programs, including Lawyers in the Library, are canceled."

Flanagan says an investigation is ongoing and did not provide an estimated time for fixing the services. The disruption began April 5.

"Upon learning of the activity, we responded quickly to confirm the security of our systems and to work toward restoring full functionality as soon as possible," he said in a statement to ABC10. "We are working with third-party computer specialists to investigate the source of this activity and to confirm any impact on our systems."

He says there is currently no evidence activity is happening outside of library systems, but the investigation continues.

The situation happened just days after NorthBay Health in Vacaville and Fairfield suffered a "cybersecurity incident." At this time, it's unclear if they're related.
