PG&E opens community resource centers for residents impacted by power shutoffs

The centers are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the latest round of power outages.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — PG&E has opened community resource centers Wednesday to support people impacted by the company's latest round of power shutoffs.

The electric company begun shutting off power to people Wednsday morning, with shutoffs expected to last into Thursday. The utility is trying to prevent its power lines from sparking fires. PG&E spokeswoman Katie Allen says some people in the wine country counties of Napa and Sonoma lost electricity at about 7 a.m.

No details were immediately provided as to how many people lost electricity, but the shutoffs are expected to affect 375,000 people.

Residents can visit the listed centers to use the restroom, charge electronic devices, enjoy air-conditioned seating and Wi-Fi. The resource center also provides bottled water, coffee, tea and snacks.

PG&E also plans to deploy mobile resource stations within these communities.
