CLEVELAND — While you'll need special glasses to see Monday's total solar eclipse, a Northeast Ohio chocolate shop is giving you a chance to taste it — and all you'll need is a little luck.
Sweet Designs in Lakewood is holding a contest giving away a 20-pound solid chocolate replica of the moon to celebrate the eclipse. The chocolatier says the lunar confection, made of both milk and dark chocolate, is worth a whopping $500.
The giveaway contest's rules are simple. Contestants have to submit their name and email address and guess how many people will enter the contest.
The $500 chocolate moon is not the only prize on offer; Sweet Designs is also giving away five 2.5-pound moons filled with mystery flavors.
The celestial connections don't end there for the Lakewood chocolatier, general manager Carly Moran explained.
"Our chocolates have actually been to outer space with NASA in the shuttle in 1997," Moran said. "We thought, well it's the moon that actually obstructs the sun, so we thought it'd be fun to give a visual representation of that in chocolate."
Contestants can enter in-person at the store, located at 16100 Detroit Ave., or via an online submission form. Contestants must live in the United States and are limited to one entry per person.
The contest ends at 11:59 on Friday.
Sweet Designs is holding an event on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with free hot chocolate and a live drawing to announce the contest winners. Contestants do not need to attend the event to win.
