Northern California resident prepare for blizzard conditions with storm ahead

PG&E said, with this storm, they are predicting most outages will be caused by trees breaking under the weight of snow.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — People in the Sierra are preparing for the major snow storm. The National Weather Service issued a Blizzard Warning for the entire Sierra.

Truckee residents are enjoying the last days of sunshine before the snow storm rolls in.

Paul Moreno, a spokesperson with PG&E, said they want residents to prepare to be without power.

“We will have power outages, the counties that are going to be hit particularly hard, El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, Sierra counties, will be hit especially hard with low elevation snow on Saturday,” said Moreno.

That's why Placer County resident James Hettich already has his plan in place.

“A little Generac, when the power goes off, it kicks on the Generac. Still have power. It would be nice if everyone did,” said Hettich.

PG&E said, with this storm, they are predicting most outages will be caused by trees breaking under the weight of snow.

“We are out trimming trees. We expect there will be a need to replace a large number of poles and power lines, so we will have those materials ready and staged,” said Moreno.

Stores from Colfax to Truckee were bustling with people picking up last minute items like firewood or propane, preparing to possibly be snowed in.

Benjamin Sullivan prepared by getting some entertainment for the next few days.

“Puzzles, learn to cook something you’ve never cooked before, read a book,” said Sullivan.

PG&E said they plan to pull crews from areas not impacted to have quick response times. They have also already put their snow equipped vehicles in areas that are typically difficult to get to during storms.
