Plants bloom early with warm temperatures

Plants and trees can get confused and bloom early with a stretch of warmer temperatures.

CALIFORNIA, USA — Last week's stretch of record high temperatures has led to the early blooming of some plants and trees.

Greg Gayton, a Certified Nursing Professional with Green Acres Nursery and Supply, offered a few tips on what happens when warmer weather confuses plant life.

HOW WARM WEATHER AFFECTS PLANTS

  • April temperatures can cause early blooms
  • Cool nights are needed for trees to bear fruit
  • Variable weather can set trees back
  • Those stunted plants will eventually catch back up
  • If no rain continues, people should water properly

Gayton also adds this weather pattern is not uncommon as we've been dealing with extreme temperature variation for the last 10 years.  The takeaway is plant life is resilient, and they'll be just fine.
