SACRAMENTO, Calif —

A warm, sunny week is in store for Northern California but so are breezy conditions early in the week.

A weak storm system on Friday brought scattered showers and thunderstorms to Northern California. Sacramento Executive Airport received 0.10” of rain and most areas in Sacramento County ranged from 0.01-0.1”. The highest totals were in the eastern valley, foothills and mountains, where up to an inch fell.

Temperatures returned to near normal on Saturday as the storm exited. Temperatures this week will be right around average through Wednesday.

Highs will be back around 80 by Wednesday and a few degrees warmer on Thursday and Friday. The average high temperature in Sacramento this time of year is 77-78 degrees. High temperatures in the foothills will be in the 60s and 70s this week, while the Sierra will see highs in the 50s and 60s.

The main weather feature this week will be the presence of gusty, northerly winds through Wednesday. A low pressure system will enter the Pacific Northwest and slide to the southeast, eventually ending up over Nevada. The counterclockwise rotation of the storm system will cause gusty northern winds this week, particularly on Wednesday.

Gusts will be 25-35 mph in the valley and will be strongest north of Sacramento along Interstate 5. Winds will also be strong along the coast and the coastal range.

The warmest days of the week will be Thursday and Friday. A cooling trend will begin next weekend, and there is a a chance for precipitation to return but models are all over the place. Next weekend’s weather will come into focus in the coming days.

The Climate Prediction Center favors both cooler and wetter than normal conditions in early to mid May.
