Why doesn't Sacramento International Airport have third-party, off-site parking? | Why Guy

The airport is also building another economy lot opening next year and another parking garage in 2026.

CALIFORNIA, USA — Today's Why Guy question comes to us on Facebook from Tony Schollar: "Why doesn't Sacramento International Airport have third-party, off-site parking, like Park-N-Fly? Why do we need to rely on SMF's expensive parking lot?"

Tony's right, there's no off-site airport parking. An airport spokesperson said the price to park at the airport is in line with what you'd pay at similar-sized airports elsewhere.

The airport is also building another economy lot opening next year and another parking garage in 2026. So, they are expanding, but on-site.

"The Department of Airports does not oppose off-site competition should a third party operator desire to build and operate an off-site airport parking garage," said Scott Johnston, an airport spokesperson.

So, right now with the airport expanding to accommodate higher travel demands in the next five years, with it will come 8,500 more parking spaces at the airport on-site, not off.

There are several off-site "sleep and fly" package options near the airport including the Hilton Garden Inn in South Natomas and the Residence Inn by Marriott, seven miles from the airport.

Park your car, sleep and catch the shuttle to your flight.
