'To protect my daughter and her little boy' | Elk Grove woman explains why she wears a mask

This week for our #NorCalMaskUp campaign, we're shining a light on Natalia Roy.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Natalia Roy currently resides in Elk Grove and she was recently blessed with an adorable new grandbaby, Morgan Cooper Fautt. She says she wears a mask around Morgan for his own protection

“I wear my mask to protect my daughter and her little baby boy. I think it’s very important," said Roy. "He’s only three months old and he doesn’t have all of his immunization shots yet.”

Roy has only had a chance to hold the baby twice, as the family wants to limit human contact until he gets all his shots. She says she also wears a mask to protect her daughter.

"She has asthma and I’d like to keep her as safe as possible,” explained Roy.

Her daughter, Marina Fautt, had to deal with having a newborn in the midst of the pandemic, and that’s why she wants to remind everyone to mask up when they go out.

“I understand that some people don’t want to wear a mask because it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient," said Fautt. "It’s kind of a courtesy, so in these times we’re having to learn that. It’s hard to learn something new, and it might be inconvenient but if it helps someone else not get sick, then I think it’s worth it.”

Roy says she has plans to travel to Europe once the pandemic is lifted, but in the meantime, she’s head over heels over her grandbaby.
