While you're thinking about Santa's visit, there are some amazing teachers going above and beyond in the classroom changing the world for the better.

We take a moment to honor them every month and this month, we’re celebrating Ehrhardt Elementary First Grade Teacher - Sharon Patten. With 25 years of teaching experience, she knows a thing or two about keeping kids engaged. Here's her tip to anyone working with kids.

"We need to be a child ourselves,” Patten said. “If I sat and did work page after work page I wouldn't want to be here."

But that's not all, Patten says teamwork makes the dream work.

"I work with amazing teachers at this site,” Patten said. “We collaborate daily."

There's a reason she's been doing this for 25 years, it's because she couldn't see herself doing anything else.

"I love the kids, that's the number one draw," Patten said. "I can't think of a better occupation. Every day is different. Kids at this age are learners. They’re like little sponges."

So, it's no wonder how Patten took home the top teacher spot for the month of December with ABC10's and Schools Financial Credit Union Teacher of the Month prize of $1000 dollars. Click here to nominate a teacher for ABC10's for Teacher of the Month.
