Why to expect big things from actress Lily Gladstone

The 'Killers of The Flower Moon' star talks about working with Leo DiCaprio and gives a strong message about honoring Native Americans.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Actress Lily Gladstone is ready for the spotlight.

She's the co-star of "Killers of the Flower Moon" along with Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio. Robert DeNiro is also in the film.

The movie, directed by Martin Scorsese is based on David Grann's book detailing serial killings and crimes against the Osage tribe in and around Oklahoma. It was also filmed there.

Gladstone was born on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana and when she gets nominated for the Oscar in January she’ll be the first person to have been raised on a reservation to do so.  Of course, the nominations aren't out yet but based on her strong performance I think she will get the nod.

Gladstone has a message for people about the importance of recognizing Native Americans.

“Whether you know it or not you are on native land and you are probably very, very close to some kind of surviving tribal entity,” Gladstone told me. “Learn the history of your area. Learn who is closest to you. Learn who the original stewards are of the land you are on now. We are your friends, we are your neighbors and we are still here.”

When I asked about her co-star DiCaprio she joked “the kid's got a future!”

And my bet is that in the future, the two will get the Academy Award nods this year.

Here are 3 things I think you should know:

  1. Lily Gladstone, like her character is low-key, funny and a strong force.
  2. Check out the movie on the big screen, it shows Martin Scorsese at his best.
  3. Gladstone joked that she didn’t need to give DiCaprio any acting pointers, “I think maybe he picked up a few things in watching me in my process but I wasn’t going to get into his too much and tell him what he was doing. He’ll figure it out.”
