7-year-old hurt in Rancho Cordova stabbing

Deputies said the child was stabbed by a neighbor.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — A seven-year-old child is expected to survive after being stabbed in Rancho Cordova Tuesday evening, deputies said.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said the stabbing was reported along the 2800 block of La Loma Drive just after 7:15 p.m. Officials said deputies were initially at the apartment complex for an unrelated call when they were flagged down for the stabbing.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said the seven-year-old was stabbed by a neighbor in the back, and that the suspect was barricaded inside an apartment with a knife.

The standoff ended around 5 a.m. Wednesday and the person was taken into custody.
