California prison officials investigate attempted homicide after 3 officers hospitalized

A man incarcerated at Stockton's California Health Care Facility is suspected of injuring three officers while they conducted a mass search.

STOCKTON, Calif. — California prison officials are investigating an attempted homicide after they say a man incarcerated at California Health Care Facility in Stockton injured three officers.

Two officers were trying to place 39-year-old Brandon Keen into handcuffs during a mass search of the facility when prison officials said he retrieved a weapon and stabbed an officer.

Keen sliced another officers hand, and during the response, injured a third officer, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

The three officers were all taken to an outside medical facility and were released in good condition. After being treated for injuries, Keen was transferred to another institution.

He is currently serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for a second-degree murder he committed while behind bars.
