CHP releases images of car that fled after fatal hit and run on Highway 50

Woodland California Highway Patrol shared an update on the type of vehicle they believe fled the scene of a three-car crash that ended with the death of one person.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif — California Highway Patrol continues the search for the vehicle that fled the scene of a three-car crash that left one person dead Wednesday morning.

After analyzing security footage taken near the area of the crash, CHP said in a Facebook post that they believe the vehicle is a white Honda Civic. The crash happened just west of Harbor Boulevard on U.S. Route 50. CHP said that no other information about the vehicle is available at this time.

Officers were first alerted to the series of crashes in the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 just before 2 a.m. Wednesday. According to CHP the crashes resulted in the death of Chris Allen Courtney, 51, and minor injuries to Miguel Maldonado,19.

CHP said they believe that the series of crashes started when Courtney, who was driving in the number one lane, crashed into the center median. He later exited his 2018 Maserati and stood near the median.

The second crash happened when Maldonado was unable to avoid hitting Courtney's car, which was partially blocking the number one lane.

The third car involved, which later fled, managed to avoid hitting the two cars but hit Courtney — who was standing in the center median. Initially, CHP said the third car was white with dark wheels.

At this point in the investigation, CHP is unsure of what caused each collision or if alcohol or drugs were factors. Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said that at this time no arrests are to be made.

CHP is asking for the publics help with this investigation. If you have information regarding the driver or vehicle that fled the scene, contact the CHP Woodland office at 530-662-4685.
