Man allegedly shoots at CHP officer, barricades self in South Sacramento home

CHP says an officer was shot at, though they're unsure how many times. The officer did not shoot back and no one was injured.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Law enforcement agencies are still working in the South Sacramento area after a suspect allegedly shot at a California Highway Patrol officer Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The area of Southland Way and Tiogawoods Drive was closed off and evacuated around 4:30 p.m. after a CHP officer responded to a call, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Amar Gandhi. It's unclear what the call was about at this time.

CHP says the officer was shot at, though they're unsure how many times. The officer did not shoot back and no one was injured.

Gandhi says the sheriff's office and CHP are working together with other agencies in an attempt to establish contact with the suspect. He says they have not cleared the entire house yet and there is a possibility the suspect is no longer inside.

"(We'll be here) as long as it takes. We have a very serious crime, very serious public danger, so until we can deem that house safe, we're going to be here," said Gandhi.

Residents in the area are still evacuated from their homes. People are advised to avoid the area if possible while officials investigate.
