Man dies after rear-ending car on Hwy. 20 in Nevada County

The crash is under investigation and officials say they don't suspect drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash at this time.

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — A man was killed after rear-ending a car stopped on Highway 20 near Penn Valley Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. 

CHP says a 17-year-old girl from Dobbins was driving her Dodge Ram westbound near Chances R Road around 1:25 p.m. when she slowed "to a near stop" for an animal in the road. 

A Toyota Corolla, driven by an 82-year-old man from Smartsville, tried to slow down but ultimately hit the Dodge. CHP says the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead after getting to the hospital around 2 p.m.

The Dodge driver was not injured in the crash. 

The crash is under investigation and officials say they don't suspect drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash at this time.
