Sacramento City Unified hires new superintendent

Lisa Allen has been serving as interim superintendent since July 2023 but has been working within the school district for the last 28 years, the district says.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento City Unified School District's interim superintendent was just promoted to take the full superintendent position in a unanimous vote by the school board Wednesday.

Lisa Allen has been serving as interim superintendent since July 2023 but has been working within the school district for the last 28 years, according to the district.

“Superintendent Allen’s expertise in education and experiences in our district prove that she is the leader SCUSD needs and deserves,” said SCUSD Board of Education Vice President Jasjit Singh. “The Board is confident and united in our belief that she is clearly the right person to keep Sac City Unified moving forward.”

Allen says the promotion won't change what she's focused on.

“My job title may be changing, but my top priority remains the same — improving student outcomes,” said SCUSD Superintendent Lisa Allen. “We accomplish that by working collectively to ensure our schools are safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where every student is empowered to learn and thrive.”

The board also voted unanimously to appoint Mary Hardin Young to the deputy superintendent role, which she was the interim for since July 2023.
