Man arrested, suspected of arson in North Highlands

Just before 6 a.m., multiple dumpsters on Dover Lane were reportedly on fire and an under construction building was also set on fire.

NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. — A man was arrested after allegedly trying to break into an apartment and starting a dumpster fire in North Highlands Wednesday morning, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Just before 6 a.m., multiple dumpsters at 4919 Dover Lane were reportedly on fire but not impacting nearby buildings. Officials say they put the fires out and tried to speak with the man suspected of setting them when Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials were called in.

More fires in an under construction building were found and put out. Fire officials investigated the cause and found them all to be intentionally set.

Marcus Dashawn Herndon, a 22-year-old from North Highlands, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County jail on suspicion of arson to a building and property, according to officials.

No injuries were reported in any of the fires.
