Innocent bystander killed in Sacramento stolen car chase remembered as 'giving person'

The family is hoping for justice, though right now they are focused on his sister's services and mother's recovery.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Kenyu Arnold and his nephew, Cedric, are dealing with a loss no family should have to bear.

Arnold's sister and Cedric's mother, 42-year-old Mashea Tane Jordan, was killed last weekend in a Sacramento County crash.

The sheriff's office says a stolen Tesla crashed into the minivan Jordan and her mother were in Saturday, pinning them inside. It happened as deputies were chasing the stolen Tesla on Kiefer Boulevard.

The crash killed the driver of the stolen vehicle and also left Arnold's mother seriously injured. He says she was driving while his sister was a passenger.

"It's been hard and I think if I didn't have all the support that everyone is giving us, I don't think I would be able to wake up in the morning and continue to do it," he said.

His mother is recovering in the hospital with a head injury and broken bones.

"She's been in and out of consciousness since then, but everything with her has been getting better. [I'm] very happy about that," he said.

As he looks after his mother, his heart and mind are also with Mashea, remembering the good she brought to those around her.

"She was just a loving, caring, giving person. She always smiled. She always thought of others before thinking of herself," he said.

The family is hoping for justice, though right now they are focused on his sister's services and mother's recovery.

"Everyone that's reaching out right now for their support, that helps me so much and I know she's looking down on me," he said.

A GoFundMe page was created to help the family cover funeral costs and medical expenses. If you'd like to help, click here to visit the page.
